NEW ORLEANS, LA — As Pride Month concludes, The Rubenstein Hotel is reflecting on the success of its inaugural Big Gay Trivia Extravaganza, held June 13 at The Madison Shop Bar. The community event brought together locals and visitors for an evening of entertainment while raising funds for the Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans.
The event reflected The Rubenstein Hotel's ongoing commitment to creating welcoming experiences through programming and partnerships that celebrate New Orleans' vibrant and diverse community. Designed as an interactive evening of fun and connection, Big Gay Trivia Extravaganza introduced new audiences to The Madison Shop Bar while providing guests with an opportunity to celebrate Pride in an inclusive downtown setting.
Hosted by acclaimed New Orleans drag entertainer Muffy Vanderbilt III, the event featured themed cocktails, lively trivia, music, giveaways, and spirited competition. Local businesses, community partners, and guests gathered throughout the evening, with a portion of event proceeds benefiting the Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans. The nonprofit is dedicated to preserving the literary legacy of one of the city's most celebrated playwrights while advancing arts education and community programming.
"Hospitality has the opportunity to do more than welcome guests—it can create spaces where people feel connected to the city and to one another," said David Brandstetter, General Manager of The Rubenstein Hotel. "We want The Madison Shop Bar to be known as a place where locals and visitors feel equally welcome. Events like this help introduce new audiences to the hotel while strengthening relationships with the local organizations, businesses, and communities that make New Orleans unique."
The event also highlighted The Rubenstein Hotel's continued investment in fostering an inclusive environment. Earlier this year, The Madison Shop Bar was added to the Pink Pages Directory, recognizing the venue as an LGBTQ+-friendly business committed to providing a welcoming atmosphere for all guests. Located just steps from the French Quarter, The Madison Shop Bar offers locals and visitors a welcoming gathering place in the heart of downtown New Orleans.
Building on the success of the inaugural event, The Rubenstein Hotel plans to continue expanding year-round programming at The Madison Shop Bar through collaborations with local artists, nonprofits, and community organizations. The goal is to create engaging experiences that invite both residents and visitors to discover one of downtown New Orleans' welcoming gathering places.
