NEW ORLEANS, LA — The Jung Hotel & Residences is pleased to announce the appointment of Sidney Montrel as Executive Chef, bringing more than 25 years of international food & beverage expertise.

As Executive Chef, Montrel will lead the evolution of The Jung’s culinary program, building on its current breakfast experience with a vision for an all-day dining destination that will eventually introduce lunch, dinner, handcrafted cocktails, bar bites, and evening service. His vision draws on the flavors and hospitality of New Orleans while creating an experience designed to appeal to both hotel guests and locals.

While more details on the expanded dining experience will be shared in the months ahead, Montrel’s arrival marks an exciting new chapter for The Jung—one designed to bring the spirit of the city to the table from morning into evening.

His culinary career spans hotels, restaurants, catering, and banquet operations. Trained under accomplished French chefs and experienced with leading hospitality brands, he has developed a culinary style that combines classic French technique with Creole, Afro-Caribbean, and global influences. His approach emphasizes thoughtful ingredients, bold flavors, and genuine hospitality.

For Montrel, the opportunity represents more than a career milestone.

"Growing up in New Orleans, I remember walking along Canal Street and being inspired by the energy and possibilities around me. To now serve as Executive Chef of The Jung Hotel, one of Canal Street's iconic destinations, is both a personal and professional milestone and the fulfillment of a lifelong aspiration."

That lifelong connection to New Orleans is at the heart of Montrel’s vision for the restaurant’s next chapter — one that celebrates the city’s vibrant culture and creates a welcoming gathering place where food, hospitality, and a true sense of place come together.

"Exceptional hospitality is about far more than serving a meal," said Montrel. "It's about creating meaningful experiences through outstanding food, attentive service, and genuine care. I'm excited to build an experience that celebrates New Orleans while giving guests another reason to return to The Jung."

The expanded culinary program is part of The Jung’s continued investment in enhancing the guest experience and redefining its role as a gathering place in downtown New Orleans.
